Who can give birth at the Reykjavík Birth Center?
Birthing at the Reykjavik Birth Center is for you, if
you are healthy and your pregnancy has been without risk factors
you give birth between 37 and 42 weeks
you have a singleton pregnancy and your baby is positioned with its head down in your pelvis
you would like personalized care from midwives that know you and your wishes
We offer women who would like to birth their baby at the Reykjavik Birth Center to start their antenatal care with us from pregnancy week 34. We also offer postpartum care in your home for the first ten days after birth. During this time, your team of midwives will take care of you through pregnancy, birth and postpartum, providing a unique opportunity for you to get to know your midwives and create a trusting relationship. The midwives will provide you with a personalized service guided by your wishes and needs.

We welcome all women and their partners for the following services provided by the Reykjavik Birth Center midwives:
pre-pregnancy counselling for the optimal pregnancy experience
classes and information about birth, breastfeeding and parenting
postpartum home visits for the first ten days after birth
lactation support and consultation
well woman care, including birth control counselling and prescription
menopause counselling
a variety of support for a healthy lifestyle such as physiotherapy and yoga
educational meetings and parent/baby meet-ups
About 15% of women giving birth in Iceland are of foreign origin. The Reykjavik Birth Center is committed to providing quality care specifically to this group of expecting parents. All services are provided in English and Icelandic, as well as Polish when possible. In addition, a series of educational meetings about the healthcare system in Iceland will be provided - to increase women’s awareness of their options in Iceland as well as to enhance a sense of community among foreign-born women in Iceland.
