Lactation consultation
You can access breastfeeding support from two lactation consultants at the Reykjavik Birth center. They provide services in English, Icelandic and Polish. If you require a translator for other languages, we can help you arrange for this.
Edythe and Alicja also offer classes about breastfeeding. Up to three visits in the first six months after birth are paid for by public insurance (Sjúkratryggingar Íslands). Therefore, you don’t have to pay for those first three visits - but you always need a referral from your postpartum midwife or midwife/nurse at heilsugæslan. The referral form can be found here!
If you need lactation consultation after the first six months, you are welcome to book an appointment. The fee is 15.000 ISK.

Alicja Pawlak, midwife and IBCLC lactation consultant
Edythe is a midwife at Fæðingarheimili Reykjavíkur. She also offers lactation consultation. Her services are provided in Icelandic and English.
Edythe also teaches breastfeeding classes at the birth center. The classes provide an overview of how to best start your breastfeeding journey. The class also includes information about normal newborn behavior and how best to take care of your baby in the first few days and weeks.
Alicja is a midwife and IBCLC lactation consultant - and provides lactation support at Fæðingarheimili Reykjavíkur. She provides services in Polish and English. Alicja also works as a midwife at the postpartum ward at Landspitali as well as a postpartum homevisit midwife.
Alicja also teaches classes at Fæðingarheimili Reykjavíkur about breastfeeding and newborn care. The classes are in Polish.
