Giving birth in Iceland - an online class about birth and breastfeeding
One class, a total of 3 hours.
This course is for all women who are interested in breastfeeding as well as their birth supporters.
In this 3-hour course, a culturally sensitive approach will be used with emphasis on the following topics:
Navigating the Icelandic maternity care system
Preparing for labor and childbirth (mentally, physically, socially)
The natural process of childbirth (What is happening in your body when labor begins?)
Methods of pain relief (Breathing and relaxation techniques, massage and other methods)
Finding confidence in yourselves and what you can do to have a positive birth experience
What birth supporters can do during labor and childbirth
Caring for the newborn in the first days after birth
The aim of this class is for the woman and her birth supporter:
to receive information about birth and breastfeeding built upon evidenced-based knowledge
to experience increased self-confidence about giving birth in Iceland and breastfeeding your baby
be able to make informed decisions regarding birth and breastfeeding
We recommend taking the class after 34 weeks of pregnancy.
Price: 15.000 ISK for each couple. It is possible to apply for a grant from your union for reimbursement of the class fee.
