Giving birth in Iceland - an online class about birth and breastfeeding

One class, a total of 3 hours. 

This course is for all women who are interested in breastfeeding as well as their birth supporters.

In this 3-hour course, a culturally sensitive approach will be used with emphasis on the following topics:

  • Navigating the Icelandic maternity care system

  • Preparing for labor and childbirth (mentally, physically, socially)

  • The natural process of childbirth (What is happening in your body when labor begins?)

  • Methods of pain relief (Breathing and relaxation techniques, massage and other methods)

  • Finding confidence in yourselves and what you can do to have a positive birth experience

  • What birth supporters can do during labor and childbirth

  • Caring for the newborn in the first days after birth

The aim of this class is for the woman and her birth supporter:

  • to receive information about birth and breastfeeding built upon evidenced-based knowledge

  • to experience increased self-confidence about giving birth in Iceland and breastfeeding your baby

  • be able to make informed decisions regarding birth and breastfeeding

We recommend taking the class after 34 weeks of pregnancy.

Price: 15.000 ISK for each couple. It is possible to apply for a grant from your union for reimbursement of the class fee.
