Pregnancy - Birth - Parenting

Twice during pregnancy - and once after the birth of your baby. A total of 6 hours.

The course will cover how labour starts, the birth process and how you can have a positive effect on your birth experience. You will learn deep relaxation and emphasis will be placed on practicing deep relaxation during pregnancy so that it is useful during the birth. Various other relief methods are taught that you can use to experience well-being during the birth and promote a normal birth.

We will go thoroughly over the role of supporters and provide good advice for the first hours after the birth with your newborn baby. We will talk about the first days after birth, parenting and the couple´s relationship.

After the birth, we will talk about parenting and the couple relationship - and you will get a chance to share your birth story.

The aim of this course is for the woman and her supporter to:

  • Experience increased self-confidence, security and support in the childbirth process

  • Be able to make informed decisions in the childbirth process that are right for you and based on your needs and well-being

Recommended timing is in the third trimester of pregnancy (approximately from 28 weeks of gestation).

This course is for anyone who wants to learn about childbirth and parenting - no matter where the woman plans on giving birth.

As the course lasts a few weeks, prospective and new parents have the opportunity to receive support over a longer period of time. This gives you the opportunity to take in the educational material, ask the midwife and other group members question and thus, deepen your understanding and self-confidence. In a group setting, good support and friendship often develop where everyone is on the same path.

Price: ISK 40.000 for the couple. You can apply for a grant from various unions to receive a reimbursement for the course fee.
