Who pays for the service?

According to an official tariff, Icelandic Health Insurance pays for midwives' services for antenatal care, childbirth and postnatal home visits. All maternity services at the Reykjavík Birth Center are therefore free of charge for health-insured women.

However, women and parents pay for parenting education, childbirth and breastfeeding classes, yoga and pilates. Various unions subsidize courses such as those offered at the Birth Center.

The Reykjavík Birth Center offers different service packages for expectant parents:

• Basic package that comes with antenatal care, childbirth and postpartum home visits. There is also a health interview with the midwife 6-12 weeks after the birth. Clients receive personalized services and unlimited access to midwifery services around the clock. Also increased education and support in a closed group with other expectant and new parents. Price: ISK 20,000.

• Additional packages with further counseling and courses that make it possible for expectant parents to seek a variety of services in one place on favorable terms and strengthen the connection with the community of the Birth Center. Includes discounts on courses, educational evenings and parenting mornings at the Reykjavík Birth Center. Discounts are also provided on all support services. Price: ISK 40,000.

The price list for additional packages and all services at the Reykjavík Birth Center is flexible so that the service is available to all women regardless of social status. Finances should never stand in the way of you being able to apply for the services of the Reykjavík Birth Center.
